The best way of Getting Started is to team
up with an experienced geocacher. But not everyone knows of such a person. So this article has been written for
the person who needs to teach him/herself the basics.
UserName & Account
A web site called Geocaching.com tracks the players and
the caches. You will need to register for an account
on the geocaching.com site. It is free. What you choose
as a username is up to you. The only
rule is that your username cannot be a duplicate of
an existing name. Many geocachers become creative and
make up rather fanciful names.
Your account on geocaching.com will give you access to a listing of caches, and allow you to mark those you find.
There are also a number of good articles to assist you in getting started. There is a link in the Link section of the
Delaware Geocacher's site to geocaching.com.
Once your account has been set up on geocaching.com and
you have been issued a username you are ready to begin learning
the basics. The remaining subtopics in the section provide
an overview that should get you started. Also included is
a glossary of terms
you will encounter.
There are bound to be questions that arise as you read through
this material. Feel free to contact
us. We will reply as quickly as possible. We're here to make your introduction
to the sport of geocaching as easy as possible.
