Equipment
You'll need a GPS. There are a number of different makes and models
available spanning a wide range of prices. Check our Links section to
review some of these. Many geocachers also put together a "kit" of
additional equipment which they carry in a backpack. At a minimum you
should consider bringing along:
- a
good compass (for times when your gps can't receive signals)
- bug
repellant (100% deet - there's lots of mosquitoes in Delaware in the
summer)
- flashlight
(for looking onto dark places)
- extra
batteries (for your GPS and flashlight)
- a
pen (since many micro caches do not have room to store one)
- a
supply of items to "trade" (this assumes you actually find the cache)
Some
geocachers also bring along items such as:
- a
walking stick (also great for probing spots where inserting a bare
hand might not be the best idea)
- a
camera (to record your successful find)
- a
cell phone (in case you get lost or injured)
- a
small first aid kit
The
idea is to have everything you need. Of course which items you'll need
most will depend on whether you are searching in an urban, suburban, or
rural area.
