As
you can see from the logo at the left, CITO stands for Cache
In Trash Out. This is a standard
for geocachers. While all geocachers are expected to do
this every time they geocache, once a year there's a
national CITO
day where geocachers around the world participate in a clean
up project as a group. Typically this is held in April.
As
you can see from the banner above, the Delaware Geocachers
observed this day in May and it was the first time the
Delaware Geocachers participated as an organization.
Delaware
Geocachers is an informal organization. While it began several
years ago the group really began to gel in November of 2005
when Mike Ott hosted a fall event. So 2006 was the first
year it was felt we would be able to
draw
a sufficient number of helpers that we could do a good job
with a CITO event. Setting the date in May also stems from
the "newness" of the Delaware Geocachers organization.
All
of the neighboring state and regional geocaching organizations
(MD, NJ, PA) had set their CITO event for April. Since there
are Delaware Geocachers who live in these states, we didn't want
to be in competition with these other events. Also we wanted
to present an opportunity for these non Delaware-base Delaware
geocachers to take part in our event. And so, for this year,
the date was changed to May.
We
had a nice response from our members and a good days work was
accomplished followed by some geocaching. This gallery presents
an overview of what happened and who was there.
