Hart 612

Interviewed December 2005

Delaware Geocachers is pleased to bring you an interview with Hart612 - a team username consisting of Bob Hart, his wife Lois, and their dog Shelby. Hart612 now has over 1010 cache finds logged. We express our thanks to them for planning their finds so that they achieved their 1000th find at the Delaware Geocachers Fall Event.

The following interview was conducted with Bob Hart.

How did you become involved with geocaching - and how long have you been doing it?
I learned about geocaching through a motorcycle forum. We started caching in January, 2004.

How many caches have you found so far?
1019 as of 11/21/05

Which type of cache do you prefer seeking - traditional, multi, puzzle or virtual?
We prefer traditional caches . Especially ones placed in wildlife areas or parks that we haven’t visited before.

Which find was the most challenging?
Rock Hop at the Canal because we had to make 3 trips to catch the tide low enough to get to the cache site.

Which was the easiest?
Any shopping center micro.

Which was your favorite?
Hershaull Park located south of York, PA.

What's the most unusual thing you've found in a cache?
Have never found anything unusual.

Have you had any memorable experiences while seeking a cache?
Lots, some we can remember--watching ospreys build their nest while after finding Three Sentinels, killing a baby bunny while searching for FTF An Alternate Definition=Fast to Find, and a great virtual in Vermillion, OH on Lake Erie called I saw the light.

What advice would you give to a beginning geocacher?
Before going caching the first time, read the FAQ’s on the geocaching website--lots of helpful information is there. Second, take advantage of local geocaching events to go caching with experienced cachers.

How many caches have you placed?
52 placed, four archived.

Have any of them proven to be more "popular" than what you expected?
Tanger Treasure located in Rehoboth behind the Tanger Outlets on State parkland.

Have any of them proven to be more difficult to find than you expected?
We are surprised Deer Stand Land hasn’t been found very often.

Have any of them been muggled? If, so how did you handle this?
We have had three caches muggled. We archived them.

What advice would you give to someone designing a cache placement?
Place some caches here in Kent and Sussex counties so we don’t have to travel so far!

What's your best caching story?
We were trying to find Muddy Run Cache and having no luck. Our frustration level was high, so we took a break. We walked back to where Shelby was smugly lying on a rock--right over the cache we had been searching for.

Beside geocaching, what other things do you like to do?
Together we like to hike, bike, camp, and ride our motorcycle. (Shelby does everything with us but ride the motorcycle. )

Which Delaware cache site would you'd like to see featured on the web page and why?
Any Mike Ott cache in White Clay Creek because Mike has a good knowledge of that area and his caches are really interesting. Also, White Clay Creek is probably our favorite place to cache in the state.

Our thanks to hart612 (Bob, Lois and Shelby) on their outstanding accomplishment of 1000+ finds and for sharing these answers with us.
