February is the month when we celebrate Groundhog's Day - the day when we learn whether we will have 6 more weeks of harsh or mild winter weather. Regardless of what we learn that day one thing is sure. We are in the middle of winter. Because of that some folks get the winter blahs...some even call it cabin fever. Well if all this wintry weather has taken a toll on your geocaching enthusiasm, this month we're reviewing 10 caches that help you break out of standard routine.

Have you grown weary of looking for nanos, micros, mag hide-a-keys, tupperware containers, and even (gasp!) ammo cans? The caches reviewed here will help. Their creators have not only shown that they can design great hiding places, they can also design some very unusual containers.

Join us as we look at sites created by Runfrog, pbookman, drrichardh, wdcarvr+1, dinobalz, MomMom&PopPop, yokota85, and whatevah.com. These caches will brighten even the grayest of winter days.

This review is a little different from the others we have presented in the past. All of those reviews contained lots of details about the site and several images to help you recognize the general area you'd be exploring. For these reviews we can't give away too many details or supply as many images or we might give away the surprises that are awaiting you when you make your finds. We can tell you that each and every one of the these cache sites has a container that is unlike any other container that you'll find. Well...that's not completely accurate. One of them does use a tupperware container but it's hidden in something very unique. And, we're not going to tell which cache that is.

They Don't Make Housecalls Anymore
(GCNZP3) by Runfrog

Runfrog takes pride in his nickname "Stickerboy". His caches are usually hidden in places where you have to bushwhack to them and encounter the best of Delaware's sharp pointed sticker bushes. But, as you can see from this photo, taken by geocacher Fool Circle, there's no stickers here. In fact the place is right out in the open! So where's the challenge? There are plenty.

First, take a good look at that road to the far left. That's Delaware 4 and 7 just before Delaware 4 turns the corner heading toward the Christiana Care Medical Center. This is one of the few times you are going to see it with no traffic on it. And, that's part of the challenge for this site - muggles in cars.

We can't tell you much more about this site without giving away the hiding place but there's something here that catches the attention of a lot of drivers. When you combine this thing with some folks doing curious things nearby you have a sure fire attention grabber. OK, you say. I'll just wait until dark. Sorry...this object is lit by floodlights at night. You'll be even more of an attention grabber.

If that's not enough challenge for you there's more. First you have to find that road which is close to the building. While it shows clearly here, it's not all that easy to find. Chances are very good that if you use the routing feature on your gps you will not end up on this road. A good idea would be to ignore the routing feature, use your gps to get you to the general area, then drive around a bit and see if you can spot the way in.

The biggest challenge, though, is finding the container. Once you see the object you'll notice that there are numerous places where something could be hidden. A word of advice..no climbing is necessary.

This cache was placed on May 19, 2005 and has 115 entries on its log. Here's a sample of some of them:

January 15 by Rachelhead (307 found)
It took me a second look to figure out what "the object" was. Well! I've never see one like that before!

December 20, 2006 by stayfloopy (5869 found) I couldn't look for this one yesterday because a doctor was having late hours in the office at the corner of the building closest to the cache spot.

November 25, 2006 by rehobch (487 found) Well, we drove right up to this one. No one else was around. Then we tried to find it! It took a combined effort from my wife & I to finally locate this hide and it was ALMOST out of reach!

October 28, 2006 by Delawhere (120 found) This cost $33,000? Wow! It makes for an easy landmark when giving directions

October 12, 2006 by Evanspack (386 found) WOW! That thing is even more impressive up close! Took us a while to locate.

July 20, 2006 by TeamTalan (390 found) My iQue gave me a hard time, but clean living prevailed. Tough to miss this one, but a little tricky finding the legitimate entrance. This reminded me of when my father made housecalls (before HMOs...booooo!). There was always one of these things laying around the house.

Estrella's SBUX REDUX
(GCJRWP) by Runfrog

Just about two miles away from Housecalls we come across another Runfrog urban cache. How can this be? Two Runfrog caches right out in the open? This time there's nothing growing anywhere near the hide area. Geocacher Stayfloopy's picture shows you about as much of the area as we can without spoiling the surprise of this one.

Experienced geocachers know that there's a kind of attraction between Starbucks' stores and geocache hides. Don't let that lull you into thinking that they are all the same kind. You know - find one and you'll know how to find them all. Runfrog has seen to that.

His online description tells you that this is one of his "trademark" containers. Trouble is unless you have found a lot of Runfrog caches you have no idea what this might be. And, even if you have done a lot of Runfrog caches the man is so creative that he keeps inventing newer ever-more cunning ways to hide things in plain sight. That's right. This one is in plain sight. But if you are like most folks who have tried to find this one you'll be looking right at it but won't see it.

Runfrog created this site almost a year earlier than Housecalls. It went up on June 23, 2004 and has collected 188 entries in it's log. Here's what folks are saying about this one:

January 15 by Rachelhead (307 found) Watch out for the non-SBUX people that work VERY near to this cache. They often appear out of nowhere. Luckily, they didn't see me make the grab, but putting the cache back right away was too risky.

December 20, 2006 by stayfloopy (5869 found) #5699 Looked at the hiding spot up and down before I saw the cache. Then I took it back to my car and Runfrog saw me with the cache.

October 9, 2006 by Evanspack (386 found) This was our most expensive cache to date. Every time we looked, we needed to buy latte's as our cover!

August 29, 2006 by debchic (121 found) Finally, GOTCHA!! I can't believe it took me so many visits to find this and I even needed a hint. Very good hide and I even found it in the dark!! TFTC!!

May 26, 2006 by 4geo-b's (476 found) WELL HIDDEN LOOKED LIKE IT BELONGED THERE. FOUND A CACHE AND HAD A COFFEE! LIFE IS GOOD!TFTC!

March 26, 2006 by yokota85 (264 found) this one had me going for few, mugglers all around I could not see it even though I was looking right at it. once I started feeling around it moved. nice.

March 11, 2006 by Shifty (1047 found) Excellent camo job on this one. Had much fun in trying to figure out how to open it. I guess after all that you would need a coffee..:)

September 11, 2005 by lavarock1 (1900 found) The Tweeter guy loves to come out in his chair, put it in the parking lot, and catch a smoke while he watches. Without him, this 1000+ finder woulda walked away puzzled. even though I have seen another of his hides !!!! TweeterMuggle didn't 'spill the beans' as CCCooper put it earlier, he just gave me a nudge. I stand humbled. you should do workshops on urban caches. Good work.

June 18, 2005 by Team Min Dawg (564 found) Since we are not from around here, we had no idea what your "trademark container" looks like. ...We also found the Tweeter installation guy's Sirius radio antenna first. For those who look for this cache, the black thing on top is not the cache, it is a real satellite radio antenna.

Lanterns over the Red Clay
(GC207NX) by pbookman

Here's another of those caches that is hiding in plain sight. The camo on this one is quite good. You'll probably look right at it and not see it. This one is near Marshalton. The road running past this site has a bend in it. If you find yourself parked on the opposite side of this road be extra careful when crossing. Traffic moves along here rather quickly. Since this area is not known for high volume foot traffic drivers are not expecting to have pedestrians step out onto the road.

While you are at the site see if you can spot the lanterns noted in the title of this cache. This structure dates to the 1930s. There's some very interesting design work going on here.

Note that the yellow and black striped warning decals on both ends of the structure are NOT the hiding place. Please do not disturb them. As noted above the "container" is out in plain sight. It is not covered by anything. You'll need some sharp eyes to grab this one. And be sure to bring a "sharpie" to sign the log.

This cache is the most recently placed in this review. It went up on January 6, 2007 and already has 23 entries in its log. Folks are saying this about it:

January 16 by SquirtGunn (151 found) Liked the lanterns, liked the ..., liked the cache.

January 12 by dinobalz (649 found) Indeed a popular spot this evening. Nice camo job.

January 12 by tacklemom (486 found) Well this was a popular spot tonight ! :) SL - creative hide, first one of these I've ever seen, I like the ones I don't have to risk my life to find.

January 12 by whatevah.com (304 found) very cool! didn't bring my GPS, so I was looking in the wrong spot for a while, and watching a beaver swimming and splashing around.

January 8 by peeper pat (289 found) Nice job of hiding, almost needed the hint.Nice creek also,My wife and I kayaked this to where White Clay ties in, then to the Christian river.Good ride it was.TFTF

January 7 by MikeOtt (891 found) I got this one at about 8am Sunday morning and that was only good for third to find. I suspect the first two were done last night. Extracting the log book was difficult. Very clever well done micro.

Johnny Cache #1 Tribute
(GCZCJV) by drrichrdh

This cache is a multi. It's included in this review because of the container for the first part.

On the left you see Delaware 4 again - same road that took you by Housecalls. Here in the Newport area the road is called Maryland Avenue. That big forrest on the right side of the street is Banning Park. The entrance to the park is on a side street up near that highway sign you see in the picture. You'll notice that when you get there the park has opened up into a number of athletic fields, pavilion areas, and ponds. There's no need to go into the woods for this one.

The drrichardh team created this cache to have a bit of suburban and slightly rural challenges.

The coordinates for this cache will have you parked quite close to stage one. That's the part is that is slightly rural. The camo on this container is very well done but trust your gps. The coordinates are correct.

After finding stage one you'll be taking a short hike to stage two. Here you will be looking for a traditional ammo can but be extra watchful. The walking trail winds all around the hide area. It is surprising how many people visit this park at all hours of the day. As you'll notice there are floodlights so that athletic events can happen after dark. There will always be muggles lucking here. Be sure to check in all directions before making the grab. Oh yes, this is a themed cache so be sure to read the on line description so that you bring the right type of stash.

This site went up on November 15, 2006. So far there are 25 entries in its log. Here's a sample:

January 30 by MajorT (3029 found)
3014. How stupid do I feel? Well, when you spend 15 minutes circling the PARKING COORDINATES looking for the cache (because you forgot that you had the parking coords in the GPSr), then you can join my club! Yep, that's right. After about 15 minutes of confusion because the GPS was taking me to NOTHING, I finally clued in on what was wrong. At least I'm big enough to admit it!! Once on track I went to the right area and had an idea of what I was looking for. Very well done on the first stage! Second stage was a bit easier. No one was around so I could retrieve in private. Thanks for the hide!

December 28, 2006 by polskikrol (322 found)
Nice walk through the park at night... stage 1 has us going crazy and just as I was saying that I cant find $%^# I found the cache! We also were not expecting the container we found for stage 2. Thanks for the hide!

November 26, 2006 by programmer64 (1323 found) Nice little multi while out with team Dinobalz. That first stage is great, really nice job. Looking forward to more of these kind of caches.

November 26, 2006 by Brianslost (518 found) Had a little time this morning and decided to hit a few of these new ones. After searching for a while while chanting the clue I don't know how it jumped out at me like it did. Then I didn't believe the coords could be right until I got there. How about that?

November 17, 2006 by Horn229 (1122 found) #866 w00t! I was going to go after this one this morning, as I stayed up all night writing a paper, but I didn't finish it in time to go after it. Decided to wait 'til I got off work. I Pulled in next to stage one started searching after having been up for 33 hours, surprisingly enough, I got stage one within 10 seconds of searching. Grabbed the numbers and went to stage two. Stage one is an awesome hide, I haven't found anything similar to it in DE. Very well done, I loved that. Stage two was equally fun. It's in an obvious spot, but ya gotta remember to use stealth when going for it. Awesome cache, I wish I would've done it yesterday.

Waterview
(GCYKEA) by wdcarvr+1

Battery Park in New Castle is the next location for locating one of these unusual containers. With the weather as cold as it has been lately, if you want to save yourself from having to make a long walk from the downtown area look for the parking area for the New Castle Sailing Club. There's public parking there also.

Take some time and look around. Wdcarvr+1 has placed this cache in an area that is loaded with potential hiding spots. That's part of the "charm" of this site. You'll be certain that your gps has stopped working but believe it. Wdcarvr+1 has made an adjustment to the coordinates. Those currently posted are dead on.

When you find "ground zero", if you are like most folks, you won't see anything that is a hiding place. But there is one and it, too, is in plain sight. This is one of those caches where, after you find it, you'll never look at one of these things the same way again.

This cache went up on September 30, 2006. So far 32 entries have been posted to the log. Here's what folks are saying:

December 30, 2006 by JoenSue (1031 found) A live squirrel was watching us as we orbited for awhile. Joe was about to hang it up until Sue announced " I'm having coffee" ...a SJG code for "found it". Wow...her geosense was right on! Great cache, SL, thanks for the fun!

Webmasters note: That's a very clever signal system. Certainly beats shouting " I FOUND IT" which is what you might be tempted do with this one.

November 23, 2006 by hart612 (1772 found) It's amazing how many people frequent this place on a dreary morning. Good #s narrowed this site down to a single place. Thanks for the hunt.

November 23, 2006 by sine (621 found) Coords were right on the money but it took some determination to get this one.

November 10, 2006 by Harthausen (486 found) I'm really ticked off at myself for this one. I was looking in the right spot, but didn't persist because I needed to pick up my children from school. So I did the PAF thing and realized that had I just searched on my own for another two minutes, I'd have had it all by myself. Awesome cache!!

October 13, 2006 by MikeOtt (891 found) N 39° 39.384 W 075° 34.125 Wdcarvr+1 has made a very evil hide. My GPS had ground zero by the boat ramp. Ten to 20 feet away in all directions were big old trees ,gates, posts and chain, plus other stuff--all good hiding spots. Took awhile to find it--Horns note was helpful. This one is hard because it takes some effort to extract what you need to. I included my coordinates, they are only different by 18 feet, but that can be important in reducing the search area. Like Programmer, I have seen this kind of hide before. For someone who has not, this could be very difficult. The good news, all your searching is out in the open with nice view--no stickers or problems to fight.

October 3, 2006 by debjoey (1278 found) Now that was downright devious. It was one of those that the coords lead you to a place that you can't believe that something could be hidden there and end up looking everywhere else. The coords were right on. TFTC [view this log on a separate page]

Do the Dewey
(GCYNDW) by dinobalz

While you are in the New Castle area you should consider this one. While all of the cache we've reviewed here are unique, this one is the only cache where you have to time your arrival. If you get here too early or too late or on the wrong day you'll find the place locked. Dinobalz has noted in their cache description that you will be entering a building. But don't just go charging in. This cache is a puzzle. Before you try for it you might want to study a bit about this Dewey person. Here's a hint - you don't want Dewey the politician or Dewey the admiral. You need to find out about the Dewey who created the decimal system. The good news is that you don't have to memorize anything. Still, knowing what this Dewey person created will certainly come in handy as you do both parts of this puzzle.

Part one will have you in a parking lot where you will see numerals on display everywhere. Be persistent. They need to fit a certain pattern. If they are not in that pattern you have not found the correct numerals. Be an investigator. Be sure you've examined ALL the places where numerals might be on display.

Once you have found the correct set you can enter the building and meet all the muggles. This place is muggle heaven. Fortunately the person in charge knows about this cache and will not challenge you even if this if the first time you have ever set foot in this place.

The item you find is certainly one of a kind and you'll have no difficulty recognizing it. Like most of the others in this review, this one is in plain sight also. But armed with what you discovered about that Dewey person you should be on the right track in no time.

Dinobalz placed this cache on October 3, 2006 as a replacement for one that was here but got muggled. That one was outside. Twenty-seven entries are in log. Here's a few of them:

Cache Logs January 18 by Evanspack (386 found) Oh my GOODNESS! This was a GREAT CACHE! I totally LOVED it! I was cracking up! Very creative and fun idea! SL! TFTC!

December 27, 2006 by m_and_w (1299 found) Stopped by a little too early the first time around, but an hour or two later we went in and signed the log. Great hide! TFTC. M & W + Dog (no dogs allowed, he waited outside)

December 19, 2006 by CCCooperAgency (18736 found) I really enjoyed this one! Glad that i got here when they were open.

Webmaster's note: Yes that number beside CCCooperAgency's name is correct. She holds the record for most finds by any geocacher. Watch for an interview with her in a future editor of this web site.

October 13, 2006 by MikeOtt (891 found) With over 700 finds, I don't see many new unique caches, but this one is one of them. I have never seen anything like this cache/hide that took a good bit of effort on Dinobalz's part. I have NEVER seen a log book even close to what this cache has. I highly recommend it. This was a great start to taking off early from work to do the New Castle caches.

Oh, Well
(GCVC4VW) by dinobalz

Here's another Dinobalz cache and its near enough to the Dewey location that you could do both on the same trip. The picture on the right gives you a visual target that should confirm you have found the correct area. What it doesn't show is the Elementary School. This picture was taken by geocacher yawlog from the Elementary School's parking lot. This is another of those caches where getting here at the right time is an important part of your success story.

While we have noted this repeatedly it bears mentioning once again. You are looking for an unusual container. That fence and those bushes look like great spots for a micro or a hide a key. Don't waste you time seeking either of those. You are looking for something that is out in plain sight and blends so well with its surroundings that you'll probably look at it and miss seeing it.

This cache is located not too far from where the dinobalz team live. As you are struggling to find it they may be looking out their window watching you have all this fun.

The cache was placed on April 11, 2006. The 54 log entries contain statements like this:

December 27, 2006 by m_and_w (1299 found) This was taking a while in the dark, but we finally read through some of the previous logs, tried again, and the Woman found it quickly. The Man had passed it over once without realizing it. SL, TFTC. M & W + Dog

December 10, 2006 by Kestrela1 (64 found) Looked at this one 3 times before Ngauger found it. TFTC!

December 3, 2006 by SquirtGunn (151 found) (103) Loved this container-super cool hide, found immediately. Glad that it was a Sunday, wouldn't want to do this on a school day-oh,well.

November 26, 2006 by mischievousgrin6 (190 found) (#173) Neat hide, Dino! Looked right at it the first time I was here.... didn't think it was there, so I gave up and left. Came back today and searched a little more thoroughly. Was about to say "Oh well" and leave with a DNF, but found it just in time. SL TFTC!

September 8, 2006 by rehobch (487 found) Went on an overnight caching trip to Newcastle. Headed for this after finding Drumming Up a Cache close by. Eagle-eyed wife spotted this one almost right away (she's still gloating!). I was looking for the obvious- which this surely was NOT! Oh, Well- at least we got it! SL. Thanks for a clever hide!

May 7, 2006 by green98cavy (13 found) Wow! The hide blends in perfectly. TFTC

Iron Hill Tweet Tweet
(GCNCDM) by MomMom&PopPop

This cache is in the Newark area - Iron Hill to be exact. As you can see from this picture of the mochee clan displaying the swag, this is woodsy area. Finding this one in the summer, and even the early fall can create quite a challenge for your gps. Now that it's winter and most of the leaves are on the ground you'll have a much better chance of having your gps lock onto some satellites. It will also give you a bit more visibility in this forrest.

The size of the stash items held by those proud geocachers indicate that this container is quite a bit larger than most of the others in this review. Bring some stash.

The cache is not all that far from the parking lot. If you are not familiar with this park it might be best to use the routing feature of your gps. Parking lots appear throughout the park. Be sure to read the description before you try to this one.

MomMom&PopPop actually live in Maryland but they have created a number of Delaware caches. They put this one up on April 6, 2005.There are 97 entries in its log. People are saying this:

January 21 by kleinjeff (8 found) Found it with ease because of the lack of foliage. Pencil was broken inside so we could not sign the book because we forgot to bring a pen. Next cacher may want to bring a pencil sharpener or a pen to leave. Awesome cache, great location as well. thanks!

December 24, 2006 by jefrut (64 found) What a cute little cache. Found with a little difficulty. GPS very jumpy. Took Reading glasses TB. left bubbles. TFTC This is our 50th find!

December 23, 2006 by Evanspack (386 found) After a brutal hunt (GPS was completely worthless at Iron Hill!), seeing the cache made everything okay! What a GREAT IDEA!! Put a smile on my face! TNLNSL! TFTC!

August 31, 2006 by TamCo (2399 found) It was overcast today. We were getting frustrated because we lost our satellites 4 times on the way to this cache. I was not about to give up. Nice cache container! There were some muggles in the parking lot nearby, but no one on the trails. TFTC

May 13, 2006 by maxiam (327 found) A fun day with friends drrichardh.Took us a while but we did find it, if we had paid attention to the title it would have found it easier...lol thanks for the fun [view this log on a separate page]

May 13, 2006 by drrichardh (301 found) GPS had a hard time locking on due to the tree cover but my wife's good eyesight spotted the cache. SUSHI (GCYXFB)
by yokota85

While you are here on Iron Hill you might want to try for this one also. It's at the bottom of Iron Hill just off the Old Baltimore Pike. You'll need to keep a sharp eye out for the sign announcing the turn - it appears suddenly.

The picture on the right give you a visual reference point. The cache is not inside the museum. If you think you might want to visit the museum be sure to check its hours of operation and its current fee schedule. The is no fee to enter the area where the cache is hidden.

With this cache Yokota85 demonstrates both creativity and cunning. Again, this is one of those where the object you are seeking is out in plain sight. When your gps gets you to right area you'll appreciate that information. There are quite a few potential hiding spots. You could be looking in all the wrong places for a while. This is another of those caches where, once you find the container you'll never look at one of these the same way again.

It should be noted that the Iron Hill area is peppered with caches. You could easily gather data on those others and make a day of sweeping Iron Hill. Sushi and Iron Hill TweetTweet are the only caches on Iron Hill that exhibit unusual containers.

This cache went up on October 16, 2006. Forty-Nine folks have made log entries like these:

January 5 by JustKidding1469 (74 found) Wow ... you can tell I'm rusty! It took me twice to find this one ... first time my GPS wouldn't settle and had me in a different area ... I figured it was in the area that it was in ... but was short on time so left. Came back today in the rain ... looked at the location, looked around the location ... looked back at the location ... This cache really made me smile ... well done and very cute... TFTC!!

January 2 by Joe Wessels (321 found) I tried this guppy 3 times and four different directions and said phoey (i guess that's how you spell it) as the sun was starting to set. I did manage to get 3 other caches while there and a good walk in. I see now from reading the log an idea of what was probably right in front of me. I'll be back another time.

December 9, 2006 by rflester (368 found) I thought at first that this might be hidden in a fake rock around the little pool behind the museum. No luck with that - GPS signal wasn't helping either; had me literally going in circles around the building at one point. I didn't have any of the recent logs on the printout I had with me - I realize now where it is after getting back home and reading those logs. Should be an easy find next time.

November 26, 2006 by hussars (31 found) an engineering masterpiece...well done!

November 11, 2006 by Horn229 (1122 found) #843 w00t! A very fun cache indeed. I looked at the decoys, then remembered the name of the cache, got it right away after that. I have no idea how Gwynn was here for 45 minutes looking for this one. Sure is funny to think about it though. :) TFTC!

Isn't this a beautiful park? It's one of those hidden treasures one comes across when geocaching in Delaware. It was taken by geocacher stayfloopy out near the area where the container is hidden. Being the good geocaching photographer that he is he has turned his back to the hiding spot. So if you can get yourself into a place where you see this view, just turn around!

When you do you'll see an entirely different view of this area. As we warned you with the Lantern's cache, do be careful going for this one. Traffic moves along here at a fast pace. Driver do not expect to come across people standing in the street.

In his description on line Whatevah.com mentions that he has adapted this container from something he had seen made by Cmdbuddy. When you find it you'll agree that whatever that other one was, whatevah.com has made an outstanding container. Be aware that there have been some geocachers who, when they found this container, were a bit hesitant to touch it. Be courageous! Go for it!

The cache was placed on September 24, 2006. There are 40 entries in the log. Here's a sample:

Here Kitty, Kitty (GCYNC2)
by Delawhere

Delaware Geocacher Delawhere has a well developed sense of humor. That's apparent from the spelling of her geocaching name. It's also apparent in the three caches she has created. All three use unusual containers guaranteed to make you smile or chuckle or possibly tear your hair out as you try to figure out just what the container might be.

Geocacher joepro56 took this picture which will give you visual confirmation that you've found the correct general area. But wait... if this cache is called Here Kitty, Kitty.....what's with this sign?

Answer - there's that sense of humor kicking in. We should mention that in her professional life Delawhere is a veterinarian so she knows a lot about the way things work in the world of animals. Keep that in mind as you search for a most unusual container.

The cache was placed on October 3, 2006. There are 52 entries in the log. Here's what geocachers have recorded:

January 29 by jberryhill (3 found) Adorable cache. Even my dog was fooled.

January 7 by yokota85 (267 found) this one had me looking in the wrong spot until I saw part of the cache. Nice hide. tnln sl thanks for the cache this one was a good change from the norm.

December 20, 2006 by stayfloopy (5873 found) #5697 Parked in the nearby parking area. I knew where to look for it but it still took a bit of looking before I saw it. Such an amusing idea. Thanks. Left a travel bug.

November 17, 2006 by rflester (374 found) Got to GZ and didn't see anything initially; hint didn't make much sense either until I saw where it was, then it's like, 'Oh! Okay, I see now!'. It's a bit unwieldy tho, you almost need two sets of hands to deal with it. Was almost seen by a muggle and his dog on the Bark Park side but they passed on by without noticing me. TNLNSL.

November 11, 2006 by dinobalz (657 found) Cool, imaginative hide. Like the extra thought put into this one to make it a bit different.. TNLN SL TFTC

November 11, 2006 by drrichardh (301 found) What a fun cache. Originally we had interpreted the hint to mean something else. That mind set proved to be a bit of a stumbling block as we got to the area where our gps said we would find the cache. Things just did not fit. Then we spotted what we needed to see and everything made sense. Great hide that displays a great sense of humor. SL TFTC

November 7, 2006 by Delawhere (120 found) I was checking my cache when InstantCoffee's flea TB jumped into my pocket. I hate when fleas jump on me! I'll take him home and introduce him to my pets. Of course they have been protected by Frontline so they don't have to worry about fleas.

November 4, 2006 by Instant Coffee (437 found) Needed to take the dog for a run. Decided to get this cache and get a good run all in one trip. My only concern is that there are no gates closing the park in. This is one of the larger Bark Parks I have seen. My Greyhound decided to run over the hills where she could not be seen , so I also got to run a lot trying to keep an eye on her. Found the cache after a bit of searching. Figured it would be a great cache to start off my TB Flea. TFTC

You Get A Line, I'll Get A Pole (GCZBHV)
by Delawhere

With this cache Delawhere blurs the line between traditional and puzzle. While it's listed as a traditional there is certainly an element of puzzlement included. In the on-line description she emphasizes: The are TWO THINGS, BOTH OF WHICH ARE DESCRIBED IN THE CACHE NAME, THAT NEED TO BE CONNECTED TOGETHER.

Ok. The name is quite clear what these things are going to be. Your challenge is finding them and then accomplishing that connection. If the outside temperature is at freezing or below there's even more of a challenge with this one. But in typical Delaware style, once you've figured it all out you be counting this one as one of your favorites.

It has been noted that doing this one during freezing weather complicates thing a bit. So with the mild winter we've been having maybe the time is right to tackle this one.

The cache went up on November 17, 2006. In just over a year it's had only 26 entries posted to it's log. This one deserves a lot more visits. Here a sample of log comments:

December 24, 2006 by rehobch (499 found) Took a trip north to see the Longwood Gardens Christmas show & also do some caching. What a great, unique cache! This was one of our favorites! We found part 1, did the assembly, and proceeded to search for the prize. Took a few tries, but we came up with a surprise (I thought they were salt water creatures!). SL. Replaced all parts. Thanks for a very innovative cache- we really had fun with this one!

webmasters note: caching on christmas eve almost 75 miles from home. Now that's showing your priorities!

December 9, 2006 by MikeOtt (896 found) This was really great cache and a very unusual cache container. It took a lot of work to put this one together--outstanding job. Very cold weather will present another problem for this cache. With my ski pole walking stick I was able to break through the barrier to get the cache. At some point even that will not be possible. Better get this cache fast! or wait until spring time!

November 29, 2006 by tacklemom (491 found) Cool ! Gonna bring the kids back to do this one..... very creatively done ! SL TFTC

November 29, 2006 by JillAlexandria (528 found) This was fun and very clever. Loved every minute of it.

November 26, 2006 by kpetrucci (20 found) Found as team Dinobalz with Mr & Mrs P64. This had to be the coolest cache ever. What a clever idea!

November 26, 2006 by dinobalz (657 found) Excellent and inventive, Delawhere! Forget the kids, I got a kick out of it, too! Found with the amazing P64 team. SL, TFTC!

November 25, 2006 by sine (626 found) This was great!!!! Thought through the rhyme and had a great time!

November 22, 2006 by Evanspack (400 found) WOW! This is a GREAT HIDE!!! It was so much fun! What a great job on a great hide!!! Thanks for working so hard on putting together something so fun! Another cache that makes you giggle !!! SL. TFTC !!!

Log-Only Cache (GCZP9W)
by Delawhere

This third Delawhere cache featuring an unusual container is actually a collaboration. Or maybe can call it a mom offering guidance, You really need to read the on line description to get the full effect of that last statement. For this review let's just say that mom and son have teamed up to provide you with an interesting challenge that includes an unusual container.

The cache was placed on December 8, 2006. The log shows 26 entries. Look at the fun these folks had:

December 29, 2006 by jedihunter (397 found) Even with six sets of geocacher eyes, we did not find the cache. Ugh. :(

December 29, 2006 by JillAlexandria (528 found) When your gpsr can't decide which side of the creek to be on, that can only mean one thing. Great hide, very cleverly done.

December 27, 2006 by rflester (374 found) First attempt at this one. I had no idea which side of the stream I needed to be on; Signal would say I was 8' from it on the side I started on, 5 seconds later it was pointing 80' to the other side, then 120' behind me.... No help at all.

December 19, 2006 by CCCooperAgency (18767 found) What a wonderful cache!!! Very authentic and a fun experience.

December 16, 2006 by Harthausen (495 found) Whoa! This is a seriously unique hide. Had to PAF (Phone a Friend) for this one. I had been searching in the right spot all along, but.... Awesome hide - TFTF!

December 13, 2006 by peeper pat (309 found) With new coords and all, away I went . I must have crossed that creek ten times. Searching high and low, over and under, with no luck. Finally I decided to use the hint. The coords seem to put me on the shore line and per hint right in front of me was the same thing I had crossed ten times prior, all two feet plus around,it was.TFTH,hope to get back to this one another time.

December 11, 2006 by debjoey (1291 found) We really had a lot of fun finding this cache today. Parked at North Pointe and a short walk to GZ as it is. GPS was all over the place here. Finally set Mr. Garmin down and we decided to just think and act like a 12 year boy would. Where would he hide it? After about an hour of climbing and hopping around Deb had given up and I said OK here I come and Oops there it was. I accidentally found it. Very good hide. TFTC

December 10, 2006 by Runfrog (417 found) First, CONGRATS TO EVANSPACK FOR THE FTF. She was pretty happy. Second, thanks to Delawhere and her Son for this excellent cache and for a hint or two to Evanspack. That old saying of "The nut doesn't fall to far from the tree" applies here. WOW!!!! This from the mind of a 12 yr. old. He could have a great life in Geocaching or crime. LOL. This was a spontaneous GeoEvent this morning. When I arrived PBookman and his wife were on the scene. We all searched to no avail, then along comes Evanspack, mom only. She had a clue, we searched in vain again and to no avail. Another call, another clue. Whew!!!!!! Jan got it. And to continue the fun, I was getting a good set of cords and along comes Sine. I watched as she searched. I gave her a clue or two. She got it. And, again, as we were leaving but who should come sauntering along but Mike Ott. We talked, gave him a very vague hint and left. Perhaps he's still there sipping Champagne. The cords are a spot off. Try these: N 39 44.892 W 075 40.611

December 10, 2006 by Evanspack (400 found) WOOT! FTF - EVER!!! Well kinda, there was a bunch of us (RunFrog Mr&Mrs PBookman and myself) looking this morning, so there were four of us FTF's. Make that FTSign! This was my third time out looking for this cache!!! Whenever you see Delawhere as the owner, you know you are in for an adventure! SL. TFTC!!!

So, there you have it. This review has introduced you to 13 cache sites where the container you find will be a surprise. Delaware Geocaching offers its thanks to all those cachers who have demonstrated their creativity and made such fun sites. Who knows, while having fun you might get inspired to try something creative for the container for your next hide.

While this review covered a number of sites we are sure we missed some other sites that have equally unusual containers. Perhaps we even missed your favorite. In either case, we like to fix that. Contact us and let us know about any other Delaware geocaches that feature unusual containers. If we have enough we'll consider running a 2nd review article.
